Well John, I'd argue that this recent no-confidence motion against Aso Taro takes him out of the running. The DPJ might sense that Abe will self-destruct in the next six months - after all, who could follow Koizumi? Love him or hate him, everyone seems to love the Koizumis, Ishiharas and Moritas.

So, Aso catches the flak - notice they didn't even have to touch Nakagawa - he dug his own grave. But a great pure political move on their part. It will be very hard to get the public behind Aso after they blow the nuke comments out of proportion.

Ozawa's last stand?

Abe? The dude's done. Seriously...I saw him on TV the other night. Looks like his face is about to slide off. They've gotten so desperate that they're trying to push these interviews with his wife. How many people read them outside Japan? 5?

The thing is, who the hell could come after him? It's kind of scary to think who could be next...

Prion, I'm not sure what you mean, exactly. No one's counting Abe out just yet, but it doesn't seem like he's going to have popular support behind what he does, which means that rolling back his 'reforms' will prove to be very popular for the next guy, should Abe even have a chance to push them through.

It's a bit early to be counting Abe out, I think. He's a fall boy - put there to put some things in place so things can be secure in the future and he'll walk away with something cushy.
