I just checked the video again and indeed it was Sea Shepherd that attacked the whaling vessel not Greenpeace. Sorry about that everyone. I do think my above post though still stands.. But I’ll be careful not to confuse the two again.

And yes I agree they aren’t Sea Shepherd. But Greenpeace has done their share of ridiculous things in the past.

Ken, thanks. What happened to Yanagisawa - tough love for the banks was well in order. I don’t know if he just happened to be the guy sent in to what everyone knew needed to be done or is he has become more of a tin-eared machine man since then. In ‘99, he was a reformer. Now he’s old school in the worst way.

You know, oddly enough, Sea Shepherd being designated pirates made them somehow cooler, but then I come to find out that they have no swashbuckling skills, so they’re just a bunch of guys who are really bad at PR and setting an example.

Greenpeace, on the whole, isn’t that bad, they’re just not that effective. Being berated by hippies is not going to change many whalers’ or polluters’ minds - the organization could learn a thing or two from environmental groups with more innovative strategies.

Alex, Greenpeace is *NOT* Sea Shepherd. Here’s one story, for instance, highlighting the differences:

I support Greenpeace (basically, but the whale stuff is shaky) but Sea Shepherd are the ocean’s equivalent of the ALF.

What really gets me about Greenpeace is that they are not ‘peaceful’ at all. I understand they attacked a Japanese whaling ship a few days ago?

I don’t support whaling, I get bothered when I see whale meet for sale at my local grocery store. But organizations such as greenpeace don’t seem to understand that their methods are quite ridiculous and will come to nothing.
