Kouichi Toyama is one of the 14 candidates running for Governor of Tokyo. His 「政見放送」, or broadcast of political views, is currently the number one watched video on Youtube. Here it is:

The opening lines:

有権者諸賢。私が外山恒一である。諸賢。この国は最悪 。政治改革 なんとか改革 とか。私はそんなことには一切興味がない。

You in the voting public! I am Kouichi Toyama. Ladies and gentlemen! This country is a disaster! Political reform this and reform that. I have absolutely no interest in such things.

(Thanks to Adamu for suggesting how to make the English sound more natural).

Here is the Japanese Wikipedia page about Kouichi Toyama.

Kouichi Toyama’s website and blog. On his blog you can see him performing some of his songs.

Going to bed now, but just to let people know he’s campaigning under no party backing on an anarcho-fascist platform: “Japan must be destroyed” is a line he repeats again and again. He makes his living as a street performer and turned from anarchism toward Mussolini-style fascism while serving a 2-year sentence in jail for beating a former girlfriend/comrade. He believes that there is a civil war going on in Japan that began when the Aum Supreme Truth cult attacked the Tokyo subways with sarin nerve gas, hence the militant rhetoric. He has undertaken most of his activities by himself or with a small group of followers and hence is not connected with other leftist or rightist movements.

Thanks.
So in keeping with the “awsomest publicity” line from Mutant Frog, does Toyama get your support? He and NakaMats are the only candidates who could top Ishihara.

I’m a little bit confused. Is this guy really serious about running? Does he stand any chance at all? That entire speech seems rather… extreme to put it lightly.

I’ve found my brand!

Intentional or not, Toyama is the best local comedian I’ve seen since Torihada Minoru.

He might be serious, but not everyone else is:

A version with music has been released on Youtube.

I would consider voting for him, not because I really support his wacko anarcho-fascist views, but because it would be nice to “shake” the somewhat boring Japanese political environment (specially since Abe came into office), in order to awaken Japanese ordinary people’s interest in politics.

(Of course, I don’t support Toyama’s wacko anarcho-fascist views. Japan should not be destroyed, but its bad politicians should be.)

The video’s been taken down. I believe we might be seeing some kind of electoral rules decision.

Thanks…Ok, I’ve put the version with English subtitles up there. That’s up for now. Interesting that one version of this was removed, given that there are at least a dozen variations of it up there.
