Nazi Eyes On Canada, part 4: Holly Metcalf and Bob Maxwell Story (starring Orson Welles and Vincent Price)
OK, we get it. There are two possibilities at this point. Either you haven’t donated to Canada’s war effort because you have some kind of anti-Canadian thing going on or you just don’t trust Trans-Pacific Radio on German issues. What, after all does 太平洋横断放送 have to do with Germany invading Canada? They’re in Japan, they deal with Japanese stuff.
Well, first, there’s the radio angle - we’re all about radio, it’s not only politics.
If that doesn’t satisfy you, the Nazi spy “Colin Ross dismissed the land West of the Rocky Mountains as being in the Japanese sphere of influence. To his Japanese allies, the Nazi master tosses a part of our nation as a reward for cooperation. What could the Japanese do with British Columbia, its people, its wealth of resources, if they were ever to conquer Canada?”
This is “the story of very real people.”
It’s notable that the Nazis are pure evil whereas the Japanese are greedy slave drivers. No Nazi gets the show-stopping death Vincent Price doles out to a former customer.
The way these guys talk will stir all of the Canadian pride in your bones, too.
This is the penultimate episode of the CBC’s Hollywood star-studded 1942 series.
