Malik, it's a news article. When you read the news elsewhere, do you get pissed off because it's news and not an opinion piece?

The reason this article might look like things you've read elsewhere, Malik, is that you may well have read Mr. Masaki's articles elsewhere. He's been kind enough to allow us to run his articles, but this article was not a TPR original, it was syndicated.

I'm not really sure what the point of this article is. It's just a roundup of a bunch of news articles on Japan. I'd like to see some original analysis or opinions, or at least some effort being put into coming up with something...

You know, Yanagisawa's comment was badly-phrased, but way too much has been read into it. Right after he said it, he immediately acknowledged that the choice of words ws bad.

Actual misogyny and/or incompetence are OK. Nakagawa is in the clear. Besides, he didn't unwisely use the word "machines," he said women should focus on women's work. I'd be willing to bet that you'd have a hard time explaining what was wrong with that to a number of members of the LDP's senior leadership.

Yanagisawa's comment keeps (rightly) getting attention, but I'm not sure why Nakagawa's corker has been so quiet:

"Women have their proper place: they should be womanly," said LDP policy chairman Syoichi Nakagawa, right-hand man to premier Shinzo Abe.

"They have their own abilities and these should be fully exercised, for example in flower arranging, sewing, or cooking. It's not a matter of good or bad, but we need to accept reality that men and women are genetically different, " he said over breakfast in Tokyo.
