John, they were on Friday night/Saturday morning. There were plenty of quotes in the Japanese press from lawmakers - I remember Mizuho Fukushima being very outspoken - who basically said this tactic exposed the LDP's scam. But, it was the middle of the night on a Friday night, and there won't be much left in terms of legs on Monday. The LDP won't be talking about it; they're already campaigning.

As the passage of these bills effectively closes out this year’s regular Diet session in order to allow for candidates to hit the campaign trail next week, it becomes obvious that the 12 day extension of the Diet session was nothing more than a ploy to push the Upper House election back one week.

Wasn't this already suspected? I'm not sure why the opposition haven't been hammering away at it.
