I also recommend this short article from the Christian Science Monitor on the issue. It seems Japanese right-wingers will stood against this "campaign of Communist China".

There are some impressive Japanese sites about the nanjing incident.

http://www.geocities.jp/yu77799/
A site where you can read some of first hand material in Japanese.

http://members.at.infoseek.co.jp/NankingMassacre/
Another site which tries to explain the event in encompassing range.

http://wiki.livedoor.jp/nankingfaq/d/FrontPage
A FAQ for the Nanjin incident.

Someone who can read Japanese can learn a lot about Japanese materials and studies which are published.

Thanks, Tomojiro. Thanks for the link, too - I haven't read it yet.

Part of the trouble with wartime issues is that people have such strong opinions that they attack first without even reading what they're arguing against or stopping to find out which side people are on or what the arguments are.

Unfortunately, it seems that, lately, it is those who, like us, accept that the massacre did occur who are most likely to jump into a thread, insult someone at random, and whip off an angry comment all in caps. They're right, but the way they present themselves undermines what they say.

And to think, I was worried about the spurious denial arguments at first.

Actually I thought that your article was well balanced, the tone was cool, a very objective observation about the incident itself and related controversy.

Have you read the review article by David Askew?

Also a very interesting read.
