Looks bad when, after all the strife over this bill, he's not even there to vote against it. He knew last summer that he was never going to defeat it, but cared enough for appearances to fight it. At the last moment, he has bigger things on his plate?

It's probably also interesting to note that according to a survey in the Nikkei, 43% of the public supported the ruling coalition's move to use their supermajority and get the bill passed, while 38% opposed.

Well, his job is bigger than just attending Diet sessions and votes. Given that they were absolutely going to lose this one, I think lending a hand in the Osaka campaign makes sense.

Just to clarify one point in the show: Ozawa did not vote in the House of Representatives on the refueling bill because he was away, doing his bit in the Osaka gubernatorial election. Why that trumps his actual job, his voting on the bill over which he's been fighting for nigh on half a year and which has precluded getting anything else done for the same amount of time, is well beyond me.
