As Tobias Harris from Observing Japan will be in town next month, we have decided to hold a get-together for anyone interested in meeting up with other bloggers here in Tokyo. So, here’s the invitation:

A gathering for bloggers and blog enthusiasts is being planned in Tokyo for the evening of January 17, and we would like to extend the invitation to any and all visitors who may wish to come. Bloggers from Observing Japan, Shisaku, Global Talk 21, Mutant Frog, neojaponisme, Coming Anarchy, Our Man in Abiko, Trans-Pacific Radio, and more will be amongst the crowd.

All of us are hoping to meet with other bloggers and readers for an evening of food and drink. If you would like to attend, please send an email to transpacificradio@gmail.com before January 8th. Please let us know how many folks you would like to bring along with you. Although we have a place in mind for the get-together, we will wait to see what the final numbers are like before confirming. We expect that the gathering will be held in either Shibuya or Shinjuku. After we have confirmed the numbers and location, we will send you an email letting you know exactly where and when (probably about 6pm) we will be meeting up on the 17th.

We hope to see you all on the 17th of January!

Update, January 9th: It’s not too late. There’s been quite a response so far and we’re expecting a good-sized group, but there’s room for a few more. If you want to come, but haven’t e-mailed us yet, please do so as soon as possible.

Just to let anyone who’s interest know, with less than three days to go, we’re expecting at least 50, and possibly as many as 60 people, but it’s never too late to sign up. No obligation, we only ask that you e-mail us and let us know you’re coming, especially if you’re coming with another person or other people.

If you’re anything like us around here, it’ll be the biggest non-nuptial party you’ve been to since college. This time, though, the drinks and conversation will be better and there’ll be a lot less vomit. We hope to see each and every one of you there.

Thank you for doing this - I’m so looking forward to meeting some of my favorite bloggers!

Terri, it was great to meet you tonight.

For those who couldn’t be there tonight, over 50 people - bloggers, journalists, readers, and more - came out to the Pink Cow. A good time was had by (I hope) all.

Ken and I were able to meet most of those who came, but not all, and we hope to meet and talk with everyone soon. Perhaps a summer event is in order. Anyone not like baseball? If so, let me have a few beers and edu-ma-cate y’all.

If not that, maybe a barbecue. I’m getting ahead of myself, but we didn’t expect such a great response for tonight.

So, to everyone who came, whether I had a chance to talk with you or not, thank you, thank you so much for coming. We really do appreciate it and we really were happy to see so many people with common interests get a chance to either catch up or finally meet face to face. To everyone who couldn’t make it, there will be another chance and we’re looking forward to it.

will keep in touch re: that special guest in an upcoming show:-)

best,
Terri

So, when’s the Kansai installment going to be organised? Since you mention baseball, around Nishinomiya might be the place?

Ken, that’s a good question. None of us are in a position to do that, but it will be interesting to see if someone in Kansai puts something together.

Ken Y-N, I wouldn’t be in a position to organize a Kansai event, but I will be down there in late July to take in a game at Koshien. Once I’ve set out an itinerary, I’ll post it over on Tsubamegun and would, of course, be happy to meet with you and other Kansai-based bloggers, readers, and journalists while I’m there.

I’m horrifically biased against Hanshin fans at the ballpark, but perfectly civil away from it.

A Kansai event would be cool in theory, but I don’t know anyone who would go except myself and possibly Ken y-n. It seems like everyone else blogging in English lives in Kanto.

Would have liked to come if I had been anywhere near Japan; may be headed back to Hokkaido in a few months.
