As we complete the South Kanto proportional representation block, we move out of the Greater Tokyo area ring and see the population and, consequently, the number of votes cast drop off. Votes in Yamanashi seem to carry about twive the weight of their Tokyo counterparts. We also see 79-year-old LDP member Mitsuo Horiuchi, one of the Diet’s longer-serving members (especially from Kanto), come in third in his district as one of many DPJ rookies takes his seat.
